At least 164 killed and 971 injured after powerful earthquakes in Venezuela

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25. Venezuela has reported a rising death toll after two powerful earthquakes struck the country, with at least 164 people killed and 971 injured, according to acting President Delcy Rodríguez.

TurkicWorld reports that the earthquakes, measuring magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, struck on Wednesday evening and are described as among the strongest to hit Venezuela in more than a century. Tremors were felt across the wider region, causing widespread panic and structural damage.

State television footage showed rescue workers pulling three children alive from rubble in La Guaira state, one of the hardest-hit areas. Authorities described the region as a “disaster zone” due to the scale of building collapses and destruction.

Search-and-rescue operations are continuing as officials warn that the number of casualties could still rise in the coming days.
