Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia adopt Istanbul Declaration, reaffirming strategic partnership

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. The foreign ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia have adopted the Istanbul Declaration following their 10th trilateral meeting held in Istanbul on June 8, reaffirming support for each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and internationally recognized borders.

TurkicWorld reports that the declaration outlines the three countries’ commitment to expanding cooperation in politics, trade, energy, transport, security, technology and cultural exchanges. The ministers emphasized that stronger trilateral coordination is essential for addressing regional and global challenges while promoting peace, stability and economic development across the wider region.

The document highlights the strategic importance of regional connectivity projects, particularly the Middle Corridor, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Southern Gas Corridor. The ministers welcomed the completion of modernization works on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and reaffirmed support for further strengthening transport and logistics links between Europe and Asia.

The declaration also underscores cooperation in the energy sector, including renewable energy projects, green energy transmission and low-carbon technologies. The parties pledged continued support for sustainable growth, environmental protection and climate action, while welcoming Turkey’s upcoming presidency of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31).

Security cooperation featured prominently in the declaration. The ministers reiterated their commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms, transnational organized crime, cybercrime, human trafficking, money laundering, illegal arms trafficking and other cross-border threats.

The three countries also expressed readiness to deepen economic cooperation through joint projects, increased investments and closer engagement between business communities, chambers of commerce and industrial associations. They welcomed the successful organization of the seventh Turkey-Azerbaijan-Georgia Business Forum held in Tsinandali, Georgia, in February 2026.

The ministers praised the effectiveness of existing trilateral mechanisms, including parliamentary cooperation, and agreed to continue holding regular meetings. The 11th trilateral meeting is scheduled to take place in Georgia in 2027.
