Threat level in Strait of Hormuz remains critical amid US maritime blockade, monitoring group says

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. The Joint Maritime Information Centre (JMIC), a multinational organisation that monitors maritime security across the Indian Ocean region, has warned that the threat level in the Strait of Hormuz remains "critical" amid the ongoing US maritime blockade targeting Iran-linked port facilities.

TurkicWorld reports that the advisory was shared by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) organisation through its official account on X.

According to the notice, vessels operating in and around the Strait of Hormuz should be prepared for increased military activity and stricter security procedures.

"Mariners should expect increased naval presence, enhanced force protection postures, potential VHF hailing, and congestion near anchorage areas," the statement said.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most strategically important maritime chokepoints, serving as a key route for global oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Any disruption to shipping traffic in the area is closely monitored by energy markets and international shipping companies.

The latest warning underscores continued concerns over regional maritime security and the potential impact of geopolitical tensions on commercial navigation.
