Israeli Strikes Put Lebanon’s Historic Heritage Sites at Risk, Minister Warns

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. Lebanon's Culture Minister Ghassan Salame has warned that continued Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon are threatening key cultural and historical landmarks across the country.

TurkicWorld reports that according to Salame, bombardments landed very close to the archaeological ruins of Tyre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its ancient Phoenician history and significance.

The minister also stated that the medieval Beaufort Castle, overlooking the city of Nabatieh, was directly hit by an Israeli strike. The fortress dates back to the 12th century and is considered one of Lebanon's most prominent historical sites.

Lebanese officials have repeatedly raised concerns over the impact of military operations on cultural heritage, warning that damage to such sites could result in irreversible losses for both Lebanon and the wider international community.
