Kyrgyzstan plans to build nuclear power plant

Kyrgyz authorities currently are looking for a suitable land plot for the construction of a nuclear power plant, the country's Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev said at a meeting of the Eldik parliamentary group.

The official noted that a nuclear power plant is one of the most effective technologies for ensuring energy supply, and neighboring countries are already actively working in this direction. For example, a referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant was held in Kazakhstan, on October 6.

Ibrayev added that in order to build a nuclear power plant, it is necessary to provide a water source for cooling the reactors and a close connection to the grid. "If these factors are not taken into account, the construction may be more expensive. The construction of the facility in cooperation with Rosatom is expected to last five to six years," the minister added.
