“Navruz” – at the Almond Blossom Festival

The festival of culture and folklore of the peoples of the world “75-Mandorlo in Fiore” (Almond Tree in Bloom) was held in Italy’s Agrigento. This has been reported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Uzbekistan. The festival was attended by the “Navruz” ensemble of the State Philharmonic of Uzbekistan and the People's Artist of Uzbekistan Gulsanam Mamazoitova.

About a thousand participants from almost 40 countries performed in three categories: “Best musical performance”, “Best national costumes”, “Best dance performance”.

Participants from Uzbekistan were awarded the Grand Prix and the special award “Golden Temple” as the most exemplary team of the festival. They were also awarded in the nomination “Recognition of journalists”.

It should be noted that the international jury singled out the folklore collective of Uzbekistan for the best dances, the best costumes, the best songs. The Khorezm dance “lazgi”, which was performed by the “Navruz” ensemble, is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The festival is held annually in Agrigento, on the southern coast of Sicily. This year it was held for the first time after quarantine restrictions. The festival is a unique celebration of the future harvest. Initially, it was celebrated as a traditional fair to distribute and promote typical Sicilian products. In 1937, the festival moved to the “permanent residence”, in Agrigento.
