BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 17. Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence has welcomed a move by 12 countries to restrict trade and business relations with Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, while calling on the international community to take stronger measures against Israel.
The ministry said Israel was “further deepening instability in the region” by continuing simultaneous military operations in Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinian territories.
In its statement, the Turkish Defence Ministry welcomed measures taken by 12 countries, led by the United Kingdom, France and Canada, to prohibit trade and business relations with settlements in the West Bank that those governments regard as illegal under international law.
Ankara, however, argued that the international response should go beyond political statements and include what it described as concrete and deterrent measures.
“However, we call on the international community to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete and deterrent measures in response to Israel’s targeting of displaced Palestinian camps in Gaza and settlements in southern Lebanon, in blatant disregard of international law,” the ministry said.
Türkiye also reiterated its position that Israel should immediately halt actions Ankara considers violations of international law, arguing that such a step is necessary for achieving regional peace and stability.
The statement comes amid continuing tensions across several fronts in the Middle East, including Gaza, the West Bank, southern Lebanon and Syria.
