BAKU.TurkicWorld - The terrorist organization PKK has announced the beginning of the withdrawal of its armed units from Türkiye, marking what it described as a “historic step” in the peace process initiated earlier this year.
In a statement released by the group, the PKK said that ongoing conflicts and instability across the Middle East had created “a serious threat to the future of both Türkiye and the Kurdish people.” The organization linked the current developments to the process that began with public statements by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahceli, and PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan.
According to the statement, the process took concrete form following Ocalan’s February 27, 2025 appeal titled “Peace and a Democratic Society.” The PKK described the ongoing phase as “extremely critical and decisive” for the future of peace and stability in the region.
The organization also confirmed that during its 12th Congress held from May 5–7, it had decided to end both its organizational existence and its armed struggle strategy. The PKK added that, in line with this decision, all units “posing a potential risk of conflict or provocation” are now being withdrawn from Turkish territory.
