BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 10. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov announced that the country plans to completely eliminate its electricity deficit and move toward exporting power within the next two to three years, TurkicWorld reports via Kabar.
Speaking at a youth forum in Bishkek, the president recalled that achieving energy independence has long been a key national priority.
“At the previous forum, we also discussed the vital task of ensuring the country’s energy independence. The energy deficit is not a problem that arose today — it is the result of chaotic management in past years,” Zhaparov said. “Although small hydropower plants are commissioned and large ones reconstructed every year, we still cannot fully meet our electricity needs.”
He noted that the rapid construction of social facilities, residential complexes, and industrial enterprises — particularly in recent years — has outpaced the development of the energy sector.
“Nevertheless, the state intends to fully eliminate the electricity deficit within two to three years and even expand into exports,” Zhaparov emphasized.
According to the president, major energy projects are set to be implemented in the near future.
“While we previously relied solely on hydropower, we are now actively developing solar and wind energy,” he added.
