Azerbaijani MFA condemns state map distortion on Russian television

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan has expressed its reaction to the distortion of the map of Azerbaijan on Russian state television, spokesman for the Ministry, Aykhan Hajizada said in response to a survey of the local media, TurkicWorld reports.

Hajizada stated that the demonstration of a distorted map of the Republic of Azerbaijan during the "Vremya Pokazhet" program on Russia’s state-owned "Channel 1" on May 6 - including the use of the non-existent phrase "Nagorno-Karabakh" - constitutes unacceptable political manipulation.

"The sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been fully restored, a reality recognized by the international community, including the Russian Federation. The circulation of outdated, false, and separatist narratives on the Russian Federation's own state television - especially when Russia has declared its respect for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty - is clearly contrary to the spirit of Azerbaijani-Russian relations, mutual respect, and good-neighborly ties," the spokesperson emphasized.

He further noted that the irresponsible and biased approach of state-owned media resources is unacceptable. Azerbaijan expects the Russian side to provide a clear explanation regarding this issue and to take the necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
