Azerbaijani deputy chair of Parliament nominated for re-election

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23. The nomination of Ziyafet Askerov for the position of deputy speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament has been put forward once again, TurkicWorld reports.

The decision was made during today’s session of the parliament.

Askerov is a member of the Political Council of the "New Azerbaijan" Party and previously served as the first deputy speaker in the 5th convocation of the parliament.

The snap parliamentary election was held in Azerbaijan on September 1.

A total of 112,749 local observers were registered to monitor the election. More than 65,000 of them were representatives of political parties. The number of registered international observers was 598 people, representing 51 organizations in 69 countries.

Out of 990 registered candidates in the parliamentary election, 305 are representatives of 25 political parties. Although 371 candidates are members of political parties, they were not nominated by the parties to which they belong. In total, 676 candidates have political party affiliation.

On September 21, the Constitutional Court approved the election results.
