Constitutional Court held meeting with CIS PA observers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 31, A meeting with international observers of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States regarding the early elections to the Milli Majlis was held in the Constitutional Court, TurkicWorld reports.

Chairman Farhad Abdullaev, who informed the guests in detail about the activities of the Constitutional Court in the electoral process, noted that as society and the rule of law develop, the electoral process also develops and improves.

The Chairman also informed the meeting participants in detail about the powers and functions of the Constitutional Court established by the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding early parliamentary elections.

During the meeting, the legal positions reflected in the adopted resolution of the Plenum on the verification of the constitutionality of the relevant Resolution of June 21, 2024 on the dissolution of the Milli Majlis and the appointment of early elections based on the request of the President of Azerbaijan were discussed in detail.

It was noted that after ensuring the territorial integrity and state sovereignty of our republic, parliamentary elections will be held for the first time throughout the entire territory of the country. During the prestigious international events that will take place in November this year, the holding of extraordinary parliamentary elections on September 1 is of particular importance from the point of view of the representation of the Milli Majlis in a new composition after the restoration of the territorial integrity of the country, the full formation of the parliament of the new convocation and the implementation of the electoral rights of citizens.

The importance of the opinions and proposals of international observers of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly for the electoral process was emphasized.

The guests stated that this meeting at the Constitutional Court was of particular importance to them in order to gain a deeper understanding of the overall process ahead of the early parliamentary elections.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on legal issues related to parliamentary elections, and the powers of the Constitutional Court in legislation in this area were touched upon.

Farhad Abdullaev expressed confidence that the elections will be held democratically, in accordance with electoral legislation, and will be fair and transparent.

First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Andrei Yatskin, coordinator of the group of international observers of the CIS PA and other official representatives exchanged views on a number of issues of interest to them.

The meeting was also attended by judges of the Constitutional Court and responsible employees of the Office.
