BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. Azerbaijani Parliament has sent a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva on the occasion of October 18 - the Day of Restoration of Independence, the speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova said at today's parliamentary session, TurkicWorld reports.
Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova noted that the steps taken in 1918 on the way of building a democratic state opened a new stage in the Muslim East.
"However, unfortunately, the established state existed for only 23 months. In the early 90s of the last century, our state plunged into a deep political and economic crisis, gross mistakes were made in the conduct of domestic and foreign policy.
Armenia intensified the occupation of our lands under such conditions. Following the insistent demand of the people in June 1993, Heydar Aliyev, a politician of world scale and national leader, was able to overcome the difficult problems facing Azerbaijan due to his foresight and tireless efforts.
