BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 12. Azerbaijan encourages Armenian residents to return to their homes in Karabakh, said Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov during the International Court of Justice (ICJ) public hearings, TurkicWorld reports.
He stressed that Azerbaijan strives to preserve its multinational society, in which ethnic Armenians and Azerbaijanis live peacefully.
"The Armenian residents of Karabakh are the citizens of Azerbaijan, and their human rights are protected and upheld on an equal basis with those of Azerbaijan’s other citizens. Azerbaijan encourages them to return to their homes in Karabakh, and will continue to work on providing conditions for their safe return. Azerbaijan wants to preserve its multiethnic community, where over 50 ethnicities are represented," Mammadov said.
Today, Armenia's lawsuit against Azerbaijan is being considered in the ICJ.
