BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 4. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has criticised what he described as actions that "recklessly" drew Lebanon into war and undermined the country's sovereignty, in remarks widely seen as directed at Hezbollah.
In a post on X, Salam did not mention Hezbollah or its Secretary-General Naim Qassem by name, but said Lebanon had been dragged into "futile 'support' war adventures", which he argued provided Israel with a pretext to launch attacks, violate Lebanese sovereignty, destroy towns and villages, and displace hundreds of thousands of people.
The comments came after Qassem criticised the Lebanese government's negotiations with Israel, saying such talks would bring "shame and humiliation" to Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Israeli and Lebanese negotiators are holding talks in Rome as both sides seek to build on a U.S.-brokered framework agreement reached in June.
The negotiations are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.
