BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 1. The Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL) has expressed "grave concern" over ongoing Israeli demolitions in southern Lebanon, warning of their impact on civilians and cultural heritage.
In a statement posted on X, UNSCOL said the demolitions are having "devastating effects" on civilian infrastructure, cultural heritage sites and the collective memory of local communities.
"A limit must be placed on this escalation in the pace of destruction, as diplomatic channels remain available to address any outstanding issues," the UN office said.
UNSCOL stressed the importance of pursuing diplomatic solutions and urged restraint as efforts continue to address tensions in southern Lebanon.
The statement comes amid continued security concerns along the Lebanon-Israel border.
