EU urges Yemen’s Houthis to stop attacks in Red Sea

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 23. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has called on the Houthi movement in Yemen to halt all actions that endanger international shipping and seafarers.

Kallas said the Houthis’ recent threats to impose a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia “pose a direct threat to regional stability and constitute a dangerous escalation.” The movement reportedly attacked two Saudi oil tankers, raising concerns about a second global oil chokepoint alongside the Strait of Hormuz.

The EU emphasized that navigation must remain unimpeded both in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, calling Houthi attacks unacceptable and warning that they inflame an already fragile regional situation.
