BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23. On September 21, 2025, at the initiative of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, within the framework of the visit program of the Director-General of ICESCO, Dr. Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik, a meeting was held in Turkistan with the Deputy Akim of Turkestan Region, Yertay Altayev, and the Akim of Turkestan City, Azimbek Pazylbekov, TurkicWorld reports.
During the discussions, the main focus was placed on the preservation of cultural heritage and the development of international cooperation. In addition, strengthening relations with ICESCO and including monuments of the Turkestan Region into the Islamic World’s cultural heritage lists were among the issues discussed.
The Deputy Akim of Turkestan Region and the Akim of Turkestan City highly appreciated the activities of ICESCO and emphasized the significance of the meeting. Director-General of ICESCO Dr. Salim bin Mohammed Al-Malik noted that during his time in Turkestan, he had witnessed its rich cultural heritage, which makes a great contribution to the common values of the Islamic world. The parties, in turn, expressed their gratitude to the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation for the initiative and organization of the meeting.
The meeting continued with an effective exchange of views on the prospects of cooperation.
It should be noted that before the meeting, a special excursion was organized for the guests to the “Land of the Great Steppe” («Ұлы Дала елі») Center. Here, the participants familiarized themselves with the center’s rich exhibitions and received detailed information about the history, cultural heritage, and ancient traditions of the Great Steppe.
