SHUSHA, Azerbaijan, October 29. Turkish experts have investigated tourism opportunities in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan Fuad Nagiyev said at the conference titled "Health Tourism in Azerbaijan: Development Opportunities" in Shusha, TurkicWorld reports.
"The State Tourism Agency has assessed the resources for health tourism and prepared a report titled 'Health Tourism in Azerbaijan: Current Status and Development Prospects,'" he said.
Nagiyev emphasized that representatives from various government, private, and public organizations have formed a working group to drive the sector's development.
"Further development of Naftalan oil as a tourism product and promoting this resource in European and new markets are among our main objectives. I must emphasize that there are also areas in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur with rich health tourism potential. With the involvement of specialists from Turkey, we conducted a study of tourism resources in these regions, including health tourism, and provided corresponding recommendations.
In this regard, especially notable are the balneological opportunities in Kalbajar. The prepared conceptual document for tourism development in Kalbajar proposes five tourist and recreational zones, with two focusing on health tourism and the other two centered around mineral and thermal springs.
Additionally, since Lachin is rich in mineral-thermal water resources, it has significant potential for health tourism. The recreational possibilities of the city of Shusha can also contribute to the development of health tourism," Nagiyev added.
To note, Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency is hosting a conference in Shusha titled "Health Tourism in Azerbaijan: Development Opportunities."
Participants include representatives from the State Tourism Agency, the special representative offices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Health, and around 200 experts in healthcare and medical tourism from Azerbaijan and several foreign countries.
