BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 6. The remains of military servicemen who went missing two years ago in Azerbaijan's Lachin were found in Kalbajar, TurkicWorld reports via joint statement from the country's State Security Service, the Prosecutor General's Office and the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Citizens.
According to the statement, as a result of search work carried out by the relevant government agencies represented in the State Commission of Azerbaijan for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Citizens, on July 3, 2024, on the territory of Yuzbulag in Istisu village of the Kalbajar district, remains of presumably two Azerbaijani servicemen were discovered and confiscated.
"The examinations conducted by the Forensic Medical Examination and Pathological Anatomy Union of the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan and the Genetic Research Center of the Main Military Medical Directorate of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, established that the remains belong to Azerbaijani Army soldiers - Farid Mammadov and Firdovsi Abdullayev, both born in 2003, who went missing on March 3, 2022, in the Lachin district after getting lost due to a sudden change in weather conditions and a snowstorm in a high mountainous area with difficult terrain.
Comprehensive investigative activities, forensic medical, and criminal investigations determined that these servicemen went missing on March 3, 2022, in the Lachin district due to a sudden change in weather conditions and a snowstorm in a high mountainous and impassable area and died from freezing as a result of prolonged exposure to low temperatures.
On August 5, 2024, during a meeting at the State Commission, the relatives of the missing servicemen were informed about the discovery of the soldiers' remains.
The necessary arrangements for the burial of the remains of Farid Mammadov and Firdovsi Abdullayev in cooperation with relevant state bodies are underway.
The public will be additionally informed about the time and place of the funerals," the joint statement added.
