Sadyr Zhaparov receives WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge

Bishkek, Nov. 15, 2023. / Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov received visiting Director of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO), Hans Kluge.

The sides exchanged views on the activities of WHO and the continuation of further cooperation in the field of healthcare aimed at improving the health of the population of the republic.

President Zhaparov, emphasizing that Kyrgyzstan highly values the activities of the Organization and attaches great importance to further strengthening comprehensive cooperation, noted that the healthcare sector is one of the main priorities of the state.

Sadyr Zhaparov spoke about the “Healthy People – Prosperous Country” program implemented in the country, designed for the period 2019-2030. The goal of the program is to protect people's health, develop the health care system and primary health care infrastructure.

The head of state outlined the positive experience of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and WHO in reforming the health sector, training medical personnel, protecting the health of mothers and children, as well as implementing comprehensive reforms in the treatment of a number of diseases.

The president especially emphasized that the Kyrgyz side sees WHO as its main partner in the development of the healthcare sector.

In turn, Hans Kluge, thanking for the hospitality, noted that Kyrgyzstan occupies a special place in his heart.

He noted with satisfaction the attention paid by the country's leadership to the healthcare sector, emphasizing that the country's level of development is closely related to the development of human capital.

Hans Kluge emphasized that WHO supports the actions of states and societies aimed at increasing the level of health and well-being of the population, in particular, positively noting the plans of Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the Public Health Program.

In addition, he added that digitalization is very important for the development of medicine, and WHO is ready to cooperate in this direction with Kyrgyzstan.

At the end of the conversation, the regional director for Europe of the World Health Organization invited Kyrgyzstan to take over the chairmanship in 2024 for the implementation of the Roadmap to support health and well-being in Central Asia for 2022-2025.
