Kazakhstan joins declaration to triple nuclear energy

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 14. Kazakhstan has announced its joining the declaration on the threefold increase of nuclear energy by 2050, TurkicWorld reports.

As part of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP29, held in Baku, the Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sungat Yesimkhanov, participated in an international event to promote efforts to triple the use of nuclear energy.

In his speech, the Vice Minister announced Kazakhstan's commitment to the Declaration on the Tripling of Nuclear Energy by 2050, aimed at accelerating the decarbonization of the global economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

During the first global review of the Paris Agreement, nuclear energy was recognized as one of the key solutions for achieving the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

Kazakhstan views nuclear energy as an important component of its future energy balance, enabling the country to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, increase the share of clean energy sources, and ensure reliable energy supply.

On November 11, the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29) kicked off in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. The event will run until November 22. A total of 67,000 people have registered to participate in COP29.
