BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 20. Renewable energy sources accounted for 34.1% of Azerbaijan’s electricity generation in a recent daily snapshot, TurkicWorld reports, citing the Ministry of Energy.
On April 19, the country produced a total of 60.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, of which 20.7 million kilowatt-hours came from renewable sources. Hydropower contributed 15.6 million kilowatt-hours, while solar and wind facilities generated 5.1 million kilowatt-hours combined.
Official data also show that Azerbaijan produced 6.991 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the first quarter of 2026. Thermal power plants remained the dominant source, generating 6.066 billion kilowatt-hours, while hydropower and other renewable and alternative sources contributed the remainder.
Within the renewable segment, wind power output showed strong growth compared with the same period in 2025. Total electricity generation from renewable sources, including hydro, reached 925 million kilowatt-hours during the quarter.
State utility Azerenerji accounted for the bulk of production, while smaller contributions came from other state and independent producers. Wind generation also included output from Azerishig facilities.
During the reporting period, Azerbaijan exported 142.4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and imported 35.0 million kilowatt-hours.
