COP29 Green Zone to be open and free for all visitors - official

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 8. The Green Zone at COP29 will be fully open and accessible to all, Head of Sponsorship and Partnership Division at COP29 Leyla Mahmudova said in an interview with TurkicWorld

Mahmudova noted that the Green Zone, covering a total area of 37,500 square meters, will house 56 pavilions and four conference rooms.

"The Green Zone will host a diverse group of participants, including both foreign and local companies, NGOs, media outlets, and youth groups. Starting November 11, the zone will begin operations, and access will be completely open and free. Daily programs will be held here.

The Azerbaijani pavilion, located in the Blue Zone, will primarily showcase the country’s initiatives and projects in sustainable development. The pavilion will feature two conference rooms," the official added.

To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in November this year. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for Conference of Parties, which is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the convention. Unless the parties have decided otherwise, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
