BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 22. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said Washington is open to holding a meeting with Iran at the United Nations, although no meeting has been scheduled at this point.
Speaking to NBC News’ Today show, Rubio said the United States would be open to such a meeting, particularly if it could contribute to a positive outcome and advance the broader objectives of US policy toward Iran.
Rubio said the central objective was to ensure that Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.
“And that is the fact that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. They just simply can’t,” Rubio said.
