BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 7. Oman has rescued 16 crew members from the Saudi-owned oil tanker Sidr after the vessel was attacked by Iran, according to Omani authorities.
The Sidr was one of two Saudi oil supertankers reportedly hit while transiting the Strait of Hormuz about a week ago. The incident raised fresh concerns over the safety of commercial shipping through the strategically important waterway, which is a major route for global oil supplies.
Saudi Arabia said last Wednesday that the attack on the tanker, owned by the country’s national shipping company Bahri, killed two Filipino seafarers.
The evacuation by Oman highlights the continuing risks faced by crews and commercial vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened regional tensions and attacks targeting shipping.
