BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 7. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the newly signed defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye as a "historic pact", saying it will serve as a "shield of peace" for future generations.
In a post on X, Sharif said he was honoured to sign the agreement alongside Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The Pakistani prime minister also credited Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for his role in helping bring about the trilateral agreement.
Sharif said the pact would strengthen cooperation among the three countries and contribute to regional peace and security.
The agreement has been presented by officials in Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan as a defensive framework that is not directed against any specific country.
