Israel Arab League gaza ceasefire Nabil Fahmy Occupied West Bank

Arab League chief accuses Israel of trying to undermine Gaza ceasefire

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 3. Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy has strongly condemned Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip, accusing Israel of attempting to undermine the ceasefire process.

In a statement, Fahmy denounced Israeli strikes that reportedly targeted displaced Palestinians sheltering in tents and resulted in dozens of deaths.

He said the bombardment of Gaza and ongoing military operations in the occupied West Bank reflected "a clear Israeli attempt to sabotage the roadmap" announced two days earlier to move to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement and secure an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

The Arab League chief also called for Israel to be held fully accountable for what he described as violations against the Palestinian people and efforts to obstruct ongoing mediation.

According to the statement, he stressed that Israel should not be allowed to achieve what he described as objectives aimed at extending and expanding its occupation of Gaza.

Israel has not immediately responded to the Arab League's latest remarks.
