BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 31. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has condemned Israel's latest strikes in southern Lebanon, describing them as a "direct threat" to ongoing efforts to implement existing agreements and preserve regional stability.
In a statement published by the Lebanese presidency on X, Aoun said explosions at Beaufort Castle, a site included on UNESCO's World Heritage List, represented a "highly dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of existing commitments."
The Lebanese president said the timing of the attacks, ahead of a scheduled meeting in Rome on the implementation of the Tripartite Framework of Operations, sent negative signals and undermined international efforts aimed at strengthening stability in southern Lebanon.
Aoun called on the international community and the parties sponsoring the agreement to fulfill their responsibilities by putting an end to what he described as repeated violations.
He warned that such actions threaten diplomatic progress and undermine security and stability in southern Lebanon.
Israel had not immediately commented on Aoun's remarks.
