BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 29. A group of Lebanese lawyers has filed a complaint with the country's top prosecutor seeking an investigation into banker Antoun Sehnaoui over a dinner in Washington that he allegedly co-hosted and which was attended by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
One of the complainants, lawyer Mohamad Amer Al Haj Hassan, told reporters that the complaint accuses Sehnaoui of "communicating with the Israeli enemy."
The legal move highlights the continued sensitivity in Lebanon over any perceived normalization of relations with Israel.
Lebanese law prohibits citizens from engaging in transactions or official dealings with Israeli citizens and institutions. Lebanon and Israel also remain formally in a state of war.
The complaint comes as Israel continues to control a disputed strip of land in southern Lebanon following months of fighting with the armed group Hezbollah earlier this year.
According to a statement from Netanyahu's office, the Israeli prime minister attended a dinner on July 27 honoring late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, described as a strong supporter of Israel. The statement did not identify the organizers of the event.
