Egypt coach dedicates World Cup win to Palestine as Gaza celebrates

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 4. Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has dedicated his team’s World Cup knockout victory over Australia to the people of Palestine, as celebrations were reported across Gaza and parts of the Arab world following the result.

Egypt secured a historic 4-2 penalty shootout win after a tightly contested Round of 32 match against Australia at Dallas Stadium on Friday, marking their first-ever World Cup knockout stage victory.

Speaking after the match, Hassan expressed solidarity with Palestinians, saying: “May God grant them victory, may God have mercy on their martyrs.” He added that the win was dedicated to both the Egyptian and Palestinian people, describing them as “kind and honourable people.”
