Russia warns against Arab states uniting against Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23. Russia has said it would be a “mistake” for Arab countries to unite against Iran, according to comments by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a roundtable discussion in Moscow.

TurkicWorld reports that Lavrov stated, as reported by state news agency RIA Novosti, that Moscow does not support the idea of regional blocs forming in opposition to Tehran. He added that, “thank God we haven’t seen such ideas,” referring to the possibility of coordinated Arab opposition to Iran.

Russia and Iran maintain close strategic relations, with cooperation spanning military, political, and economic areas, and both countries frequently align on regional security issues in the Middle East.

The remarks come amid broader regional tensions involving Iran, Gulf states, and ongoing diplomatic efforts linked to security arrangements and maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
