BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. A worsening humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli military operations, with aid organisations warning that rescue missions are becoming increasingly difficult due to continued attacks in the country's south.
TurkicWorld reports.that hundreds of thousands of Lebanese have reportedly been displaced since the escalation of hostilities on March 2 and remain in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
Jeremy Ristord, a representative of the medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF), told Al Jazeera that aid agencies may be forced to suspend operations in some locations if security conditions continue to worsen.
"If the security situation continues to deteriorate, we might have to leave certain areas. There are certain red lines we cannot cross for the security of our teams," Ristord said.
According to MSF, around 40 hospitals in southern Lebanon have already been forced to close amid the ongoing conflict.
Ristord also said rescue teams are operating under extreme pressure and are adapting their emergency responses to an increasingly dangerous environment.
He noted concerns among emergency workers about so-called "double-tap strikes", a term used to describe follow-up attacks that occur after an initial strike and may endanger rescue personnel responding to the scene.
"Sometimes they're not even able to intervene," he said.
According to the figures cited by Ristord, 126 civil defence workers have been killed and another 310 wounded since March, averaging approximately four casualties among emergency responders each day.
