BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. The United States may be prepared to ease its position on Hezbollah as part of broader negotiations with Iran aimed at resolving key security issues, including Tehran's nuclear programme, according to security affairs analyst Ali Rizk.
TurkicWorld reports.that Rizk said Iran considers Hezbollah an indispensable regional ally and is therefore likely to strongly advocate for the group's interests during any talks with Washington.
According to the analyst, US policymakers may be willing to make concessions regarding Hezbollah's status if doing so helps achieve what Washington sees as more pressing national security goals.
"The US might be willing to accept Hezbollah remaining if that means it can reach an understanding with Iran on issues that are more closely linked to American interests, such as the nuclear dossier," Rizk said.
He added that such a scenario could be a source of concern for Israel, which has long viewed Hezbollah as one of its primary security threats.
Rizk argued that the future of Lebanon could become increasingly linked to the outcome of negotiations between Iran and the United States rather than developments in Lebanese-Israeli relations alone.
"The fate of Lebanon is likely to be more closely connected to what happens between Iran and the US than to what takes place between Lebanon and Israel," he said.
