Iran, Russia moot regional stability, territorial integrity in Caucasus

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 3. Iran has voiced its stance on regional stability and territorial integrity in the Caucasus amid ongoing concerns over the Zangezur Corridor, TurkicWorld reports.

During the recent diplomatic exchange, Director General of the Eurasian Affairs Department of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Mukhtaba Demirchilu, discussed several issues with Russia's Ambassador to Iran, Alexei Dedov.

"National sovereignty, territorial integrity, and mutual respect among Caucasian countries are crucial for achieving durable peace and regional cooperation," Demirchilu emphasized.

The meeting underscored the importance of supporting peace and stability, fostering regional cooperation, and resisting changes to internationally recognized borders and geopolitical shifts.

The discussions also covered the potential of regional countries to address challenges, support economic plans that consider all parties' interests, and upcoming sessions of the 3+3 mechanism and the Foreign Ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia.

Recent statements from Moscow regarding support for the Zangezur Corridor, which will run along the Armenia-Iran border, have drawn attention and concern in Tehran.

It appears that the Iranian MFA's references to "borders" may specifically pertain to this corridor, highlighting ongoing regional tensions.
