South Carolina to carry out first execution in 13 years

BAKU. Azerbaijan. August 25. The American state of South Carolina will carry out its first execution in 13 years in September, TurkicWorld reports.

The death penalty will be used against inmate Freddie Eugene Owens, who killed a store clerk in Greenville in 1997. Owens will be able to choose the method of execution himself.

The agency emphasizes that South Carolina has long been the leader in the number of death penalty executions, but in recent years the state has faced a shortage of injection drugs. Pharmaceutical companies were afraid of the fact that they were selling such drugs. A law was later passed that allows suppliers of lethal injections to remain secret.
