Samarkand, Uzbekistan, will host the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2025, Kazinform Agency reports.
For the first time in more than 40 years the session of the UNESCO General Conference will be held outside Paris, the press service of the Uzbek President said.
The 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference supported Uzbekistan’s suggestion to hold the next, 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2025 in Samarkand and adopted the relevant resolution.
The last session, held outside Paris, took place in 1985 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization which inscribes sites on the World Heritage List. Built in November 1945 it is headquartered in Paris. The organization has 193 members.
