Turkmenistan's central election commission airs results of parliamentary elections

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 9. The Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan held a meeting during which it summed up the results of the elections of deputies of the Parliament, TurkicWorld reports.

According to the press service of the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan, on July 7, elections of prematurely retired members of Parliament were held in three electoral districts of the capital: No. 1 'Garaşsyzlyk', No. 2 'Bitaraplyk' and No. 6 'Köpetdag'.

According to the information of the Ashgabat city election commission, voting was held at 60 polling stations from 07:00 (GMT+5) to 19:00 (GMT+5), and early voting was organized from June 27 through July 6 from 08:00 (GMT+5) to 18:00 (GMT+5).

Voter turnout was high: out of 86,641 registered voters, 79,121 people took part in the elections, which amounted to 91.32 percent of the total number of citizens eligible to vote.

In accordance with the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, three candidates applied for each seat, which ensured the alternative of the elections, as a result of which 3 deputies were elected out of 9 candidates who received the majority of votes.

In the meantime, a whopping 76 national observers, handpicked by political parties and public organizations in Turkmenistan, kept a close eye on the elections from start to finish.
