BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said climate change requires concrete action rather than only statements, highlighting the importance of the upcoming COP31 climate summit to be held in Antalya.
Speaking to journalists at the Turkish House in New York after attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Erdoğan discussed Türkiye’s vision on combating climate change and the goals of the COP31 summit scheduled for November.
Erdoğan said the challenges caused by climate change cannot be ignored and that Türkiye will present its measures, roadmaps and planned actions to address the negative impacts of climate change on different regions during COP31.
The Turkish president emphasized that the world is a shared home and protecting it from environmental damage is a collective responsibility. He said COP31 would serve not only as a climate conference but also as a platform where developing countries can present their expectations and discuss concrete outcomes.
Erdoğan also stressed the importance of supporting countries facing financial difficulties in dealing with climate challenges, saying developed countries have a responsibility to assist nations with limited resources.
He noted that natural disasters such as wildfires, floods and droughts affect countries without distinction and called for stronger global cooperation to address environmental challenges.
Erdoğan said he believes the COP31 summit in Antalya will represent an important milestone in international climate efforts.
