Turkey detains 119 suspects linked to ISIS

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 18, Turkish authorities have arrested 119 individuals suspected of ties to the ISIS terrorist organization during a large-scale counterterrorism operation across 30 provinces.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the operation was conducted by gendarmerie forces in provinces including Istanbul, Ankara, Adana, Antalya, Bursa, Gaziantep, Kocaeli, Konya, Mardin, Samsun, and Van.

The detainees are accused of being ISIS members, spreading the organization’s propaganda via social media, and allegedly financing it through associated individuals or purported charitable organizations. Numerous documents and digital materials linked to ISIS were seized during the operation.

Earlier, at the end of June, a suspect connected to ISIS was neutralized in a gunfight with police south of Ankara, just two weeks before a NATO summit in the Turkish capital. Following that, the Ankara prosecutor’s office ordered the detention of 209 more individuals suspected of links to ISIS and left-wing extremist groups.
