BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. An aircraft belonging to Iranian airline Caspian Airlines has been seized at Istanbul Airport over an alleged debt of €3 million owed to a surveillance company, according to Turkish media reports.
The legal proceedings were initiated after the Iranian airline, which operates flights between Istanbul and Iran, reportedly failed to settle the debt owed to the company.
Representatives of the creditor company and enforcement officers arrived at Istanbul Airport while the aircraft, registered as EP-KPB, was preparing to depart for Iran.
The creditor’s representatives requested that the aircraft be prevented from taking off until the debt issue was addressed.
Enforcement officers subsequently ordered passengers to leave the aircraft. The passengers were taken back into the terminal while legal seizure proceedings were carried out against the aircraft.
The incident temporarily disrupted the planned flight and brought attention to the financial and legal disputes surrounding the Iranian carrier’s operations in Turkey.
