BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 22. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed hope for lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, reaffirming Ankara’s support for the peace process between the two South Caucasus countries. He made the remarks during his address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 22.
Erdogan praised the political will demonstrated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in pursuing a peaceful settlement and said Türkiye supports their efforts.
“We hope for the establishment of lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Erdogan said, while emphasizing Ankara’s backing for the normalization and peace process.
The Turkish president also said Türkiye is resolutely continuing its own normalization process with Armenia. Separate reporting on his UN address confirmed that Erdogan highlighted progress in Turkish-Armenian normalization.
Turning to cooperation among Turkic states, Erdogan said the Organization of Turkic States has continued to develop year by year and has become what he described as an exemplary platform for regional cooperation.
He added that the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, scheduled to be held in Ankara on October 30, is expected to open new opportunities for further cooperation among the organization’s members.
