Baku. TurkicWorld:

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke over the phone on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine, reports TurkicWorld with the reference DailySabah.

According to the statement made by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, Guterres briefed Erdogan about his recent contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

The development comes two days after Guterres met Erdogan in Ankara, and both reaffirmed their common objective to end the war that began on Feb. 24.

After the meeting, the U.N. chief headed to the Russian capital, which will be followed by talks in Kyiv on Thursday.

Putin agreed "in principle" to U.N. and International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) involvement in the evacuation of civilians from a besieged steel plant in Ukraine's southern city of Mariupol, the United Nations said on Tuesday.
