The EU supports the efforts of Azerbaijan in the sphere of de-mining of liberated territories from Armenian occupation, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko said at the opening of the "Humanitarian de-mining and sustainable development goals" international conference, TurkicWorld reports.

The EU allocated 2.5 million euros to the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency for these purposes, Michalko said.

According to him, 80 percent of the victims of mine explosions in the world are civilians, including children.

"In addition to de-mining, we must also prevent the installation of new mines. The EU will support Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus. The EU will provide expert support to Azerbaijan in the de-mining process," Michalko said.
