Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan inaugurate upgraded checkpoints

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 12. Newly updated "Ken-Say – Road" and "Uch-Kurgan – Road" border checkpoints between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have officially opened, Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Industry Bakyt Torobayev said, TurkicWorld reports.

Torobayev highlighted the positive impact of the reopening during the opening ceremony.

"The resumption of these checkpoints will contribute to a surge in tourist traffic and provide more efficient conditions for transport logistics and everyday interactions between our nations," Torobayev stated.

The reopening aligns with the "Road Map" initiative designed to further strengthen and expand cooperation between Kyrgyzstan's Jalal-Abad region and Uzbekistan's Namangan region. According to statistics, over 14 million individuals crossed the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border in 2023, with 11 million crossing in the first eight months of 2024 alone—an increase of 1.5 million from the same period last year.

Trade volume between the two countries reached $693.6 million in 2023, with $428 million recorded in the first seven months of 2024—a 6.7 percent increase compared to the previous year.

In a related development, the "Kara-Suu – Road" checkpoint, which had been temporarily closed for 14 years, was also reopened today, further enhancing border accessibility and regional integration.
