BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. The Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan expresses strong protest against the adoption of an unfair and unilateral resolution targeting Azerbaijan by the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament on May 23, 2024, and vehemently condemns this step, considering it a racist, Azerbaijanophobic, Turkophobic, and Islamophobic political action, the statement of the press service of the Azerbaijani Parliament said, TurkicWorld reports.
Additionally, it was noted that the accusations made against Azerbaijan in the resolution are partly based on distortions of reality and partly on false and falsified information.
"The Dutch Parliament has frequently expressed its biased attitude toward Azerbaijan and adopted various resolutions after the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia was stopped in the fall of 2020 during the 44-day II Karabakh War, led by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and the norms and principles of international law were restored.
In the conditions where peace negotiations with Armenia are currently underway and certain encouraging results have been achieved in this direction, the reappearance of such a document in the Dutch parliament is a vivid example of political indiscretion and irresponsibility.
Unfortunately, during the 30 years of occupation of Azerbaijani lands and the fate of one million Azerbaijanis as refugees and internally displaced persons, the members of the Dutch Parliament have never raised their voices, preferring to openly or secretly support the occupying country.
Today, they allow themselves actions against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, which strike a blow to the process of normalizing relations between the two states, which have been in conflict for many years and promote revanchism.
Furthermore, it should be taken into account that respect for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan is one of the international obligations of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as well as of other states. On the other hand, such actions contradict the interests not only of the South Caucasus region but also of Europe as a whole concerning peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Inadequate statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hanke Bruins Slot during the discussion of the mentioned resolution in the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament, said in response to the deputy's inquiry, unfounded accusations made by her earlier against Azerbaijan, testify to the fact that the executive bodies of this country turn a blind eye to the provocative activities of the deputies of the Parliament and encourage such activities.
All of this contributes to the growing tension in the South Caucasus region and seriously impedes efforts to realize the peace agenda.
The Azerbaijani Parliament urges the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament, as well as the leading officials of this country, to put an end to the attempts of illegal interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan, to abandon the intention to reignite the conflict in the region, and to take steps aimed at establishing long-term peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan," the press service of the Azerbaijani Parliament said.
