Council of Europe extends Toivo Klaar's mandate as EUSR for the South Caucasus

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 20. The Council of Europe has extended the mandate for EU Special Representative Toivo Klaar, TurkicWorld reports.

As of today, his mandate is extended until 31 August 2024.

Klaar was appointed EUSR for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia on 13 November 2017. His task is to encourage regional cooperation between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

On June 9, 2023, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Georgia Toivo Klaar.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the current state of negotiations mediated by international partners, including the EU, on regional security issues.

Klaar expressed the EU's support for the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and expressed hope for continued contacts between the political leadership of both countries in this direction.
