Kyrgyzstan plans to ban use of cell phones in schools

The Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan proposes to ban the use of cell phones in educational institutions. The corresponding draft decree of the Cabinet of Ministers has been submitted for public discussion.

The initiative is designed to protect the education and health of students, their social and psychological well-being, to prevent deterrents and problems associated with mobile devices, to support the academic environment, to combat all types of bullying and cyberbullying, inadmissible content, to ensure a peaceful and safe educational process.

According to the developed procedure, upon entering an educational organization, every student, employee, visitor and other persons are obliged to switch their phones to silent mode. Schoolchildren and students must turn off their mobile devices and leave them in boxes installed in the classroom or auditorium.

Students shall be allowed to use mobile devices in case of natural disasters, threats to human life and health, when receiving a message related to the health of close relatives, during a break, as well as if it is necessary to use mobile devices in classes held within the framework of the plan approved by the relevant order.

Teachers shall be prohibited to use mobile devices during classes if it is not related to the teaching process.
