Kyrgyzstan, Limagrain plan to launch seed development projects

Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev met with Chairman of the Board of AgroIndustrial Complex Erlist Akunbekov and CEO of Limagrain Europe Antoine Colombo, one of the five largest seed companies in the world.

The sides discussed the launch of new projects to develop seed production of wheat, barley and corn in Kyrgyzstan.

In particular, an issue of testing parental lines of seeds of these crops already from the next season was discussed, as well as beginning of their production in Kyrgyzstan.

Torobaev supported this initiative and emphasized the ministry's readiness to provide full support in this matter. He also noted that this will contribute to improving the quality of grain products, which plays an important role in ensuring food security.

Limagrain is one of the leading seed companies in the world and one of the top five seed producers, spending KGS 12 million a year on research.
