BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. As part of a series of events aimed at raising awareness about climate change, the COP29 Information Centre hosted interactive sessions on August 17th and 18th, 2024, TurkicWorld reports.
The first day of the sessions focused on enhancing children’s understanding of topics such as climate, ecology, sustainability, and inclusivity through a series of educational sessions. The following day, experts provided their insights and moderated discussions on these issues.
On the first day of practical workshops, which centred on the theme "Organic School", children participated in sessions focused on equipping future generations with sustainable skills. Additionally, immersive performances entitled "Plastic and Fish" and "Questions for the Tree" highlighted issues related to environmental protection. During the event, children learned about the ecological challenges brought about by climate change, the responsibilities individuals bear in addressing these issues, and the importance of sustainable initiatives.
The second day’s discussion session on the theme of inclusivity featured experts from various fields, underscoring the strong connection between climate, inclusivity, health, education, and the arts. The session highlighted the effects of climate change on individuals who require special care. It addressed the need for sustainable initiatives that ensure no one is left behind in the global efforts to combat climate change. Participants discussed ways to integrate inclusive policies and practices into climate action, with a view to encouraging a more equitable approach to environmental challenges.
The session, organised by EkoSfera Social-Ecological Centre and moderated by the organisation’s head, Firuza Sultanzade, featured experts including Natavan Mammadova, the Secretary General of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs’ (Employers’) Organisations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Chair of the Advisory Council of the "Together and Healthy" Public Union; Nigar Sultanova, the founder of the DanceAbility Azerbaijan Inclusive Dance Centre; and Gunel Abdullayeva, a psychologist at the Republican Children and Youth Development Centre. The experts shared their knowledge and experiences during the discussions, which concluded with a Q&A session with participants.
At the end of the event, dancers performed an inclusive routine featuring the DanceAbility method.
